- A24 horror added October 1
- Classics and cult favorites
- Which titles are rent-only
- US catalog; availability may change
The short answer
Prime Video's horror shelf is unusually strong this October because a big batch of A24 titles arrived on October 1. If you only watch one, make it Hereditary (2018). If you have already seen it, try Weapons (2025), Zach Cregger's follow-up to Barbarian, or John Carpenter's The Thing (1982).
Rechecked on JustWatch on November 4, 2026. Everything here was listed as included with a Prime membership in the US in October 2026, according to Amazon's monthly additions and horror sites that recheck the catalog. Prime also sells and rents movies, and the same screen shows both, so look for the "Included with Prime" label before you press play. Titles rotate, so availability may change.

The best horror movies on Prime Video right now
Hereditary (2018)
Ari Aster's debut follows a family coming apart after the grandmother dies. Toni Collette gives one of the best performances in any horror film, and the dinner-table scene is as uncomfortable as anything in the genre. It arrived on Prime on October 1. Hulu added it on October 1 too, so you may have two ways to watch.
Weapons (2025)
November update: Weapons has left Prime Video and now streams on HBO Max in the US. Seventeen children from one class leave their homes at 2:17 a.m. on the same night and never come back. Zach Cregger tells the story in chapters from different people's points of view, which is what makes it work. If you like Cregger, read our Resident Evil (2026) review; he directed that one too.
The Thing (1982)
John Carpenter's Antarctic paranoia film, with Kurt Russell and a shape-shifting alien that could be anyone. The practical effects still hold up more than 40 years later.
The Witch (2015)
Robert Eggers' first film is a slow, period-accurate story about a Puritan family alone at the edge of a forest. Anya Taylor-Joy's breakout role. Added October 1.
Saint Maud (2019)
Rose Glass's debut about a hospice nurse whose new faith turns into something dangerous. Short, odd and memorable, with a final shot people still talk about.
A24 horror on Prime Video
The October 1 batch is the reason to open Prime this month. Along with Hereditary and The Witch, you get:
- Midsommar (2019): Ari Aster's daylight horror about a breakup at a Swedish midsummer festival.
- X (2022): Ti West's 1979-set slasher on a Texas farm.
- Pearl (2022): the prequel, with Mia Goth playing the same character as a young woman.
- MaXXXine (2024): the third film in the trilogy, set in 1980s Los Angeles.
Watch X, Pearl and MaXXXine in release order. They work on their own, but together they build to something.
Classics and cult favorites
- Carrie (1976): Brian De Palma's Stephen King adaptation. Mike Flanagan's new Carrie series also landed on Prime on October 7, so this is a good month to compare them.
- Candyman (1992): the original, added October 1.
- Night of the Living Dead (1968): George A. Romero's zombie film that started it all.
- Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982): the one without Michael Myers, and better than its reputation.
- They Live (1988) and Videodrome (1983): Carpenter and Cronenberg in their prime.
- Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988): exactly as advertised.
Newer Prime Video horror
- Trap (2024): M. Night Shyamalan's thriller about a father who takes his daughter to a pop concert that is actually a police sting.
- The First Omen (2024): a prequel to The Omen that surprised a lot of critics.
- Don't Breathe (2016): three burglars rob a blind veteran and badly misjudge him.
- Totally Killer (2023): a Prime original that mixes a slasher with Back to the Future.
- Hungry (2026): a new Prime arrival this month.
Found footage on Prime
Prime has two of the better low-budget found-footage films: Hell House LLC (2015), about a haunted-house attraction that goes wrong on opening night, and The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014), about a documentary crew filming a woman with Alzheimer's. The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007) arrived October 1. For more, see our found footage horror movies guide.
Not included: rent or buy only
Two of the year's big horror releases are on Prime Video only to rent or buy, not free with Prime: Scream 7 and The Bride! If a title shows a price, it is not part of your membership.
